Freshly brewed iced tea questions?

antioxidant benefits
Prickly P asked:

I love iced tea right now, I just got the Hamilton Beach Iced Tea Maker. My questions are, how long can I store the tea in the fridge after making it? Do the caffeine and benefits (antioxidants, polyphenols) stay potent and for how long? Also, many questions on here are about iced tea going cloudy, does that alter the taste or is it just undesirable because of the appearance? One more, is it best to add lemon and Splenda straight to the pitcher or leave it plain and just add to each glass?

The benefits are still the same after it’s hit the fridge. Add Splenda while it’s hot as that is when it will mix in best.

The lemon should be added to each glass as it can go a bit bitter tasting if left.

If it’s cloudy I toss it. Tea is fairly cheap.

    Cheers!

use lemon or plain to a pitcher
    when the tea gets cloudy
make fresh and for the old tea
if you have a house plant
pour the old tea on your plants
that what tea drinkers old ways

I have been drinking & loving ice tea for over forty years! I can only keep tea in the fridge for 2 or 3 days, thats a gallon of tea which my family won’t let last any longer. The caffeine stays potent but I don’t know about the benefis. And I haven’t had problems w/cloudy tea. Since you use Splenda, as my family & I also do~I make a gallon of unsweet tea & add the Splenda to each glass. Personally, I think that is the best way to do it plus if you have company that prefers sugar~they can sweeten their own glass. Hope this helps you! Have a good day!!!

If the tea becomes cloudy after you put it in the refrigerator and it’s a new pitcher add hot water to clear it up. The taste shouldn’t be affected in a newly brewed pitcher. But if its been a few days since being made of course throw it out. The cloudiness is either caused by cooling to quickly or if made in a coffee pot because of coffee residue that is left in the filter basket.
