Yes but why not just use grape seed extract capsules and get the same benefit for your heart.

the darker red wines, like chianti, and merlot, do contain alot of antioxidants. One 6 oz serving of them a night will do you no harm, and may do alot of good. But your friends are right, the potential for abusing alcohol goes up, just be aware and you should be fine. Congratulations for wanting to do what you can for your own health and well being.

I’ve heard that beer has much the same benefit, and that low/non-alcoholic beer is even better since instead of raising your chance of getting thrombosis it lowers it.

The red wines are the ones that research claims have the antioxidants. I prefer the merlot myself. I like to have a glass of merlot with my dinner.

there is a strong link between red wine and decreased chance of heart problems. the reason many have complaints and contests about it, is because for most wine hits them faster and harder and it doesn’t taste as bad a liquor does.

Yes, you can get ‘good antioxidants’ from drinking red wine … but you can get even more antioxidants by eating fresh blueberries and pomegranate, or having fresh broccoli and cauliflower for dinner. You should not ‘excuse’ your having a ‘nightly drink’ by saying it’s ‘good for your health’ because of the ‘antioxidants’ because there are far better ways to get those antioxidants … so yes, you could be an alcoholic … not become one, but ARE ONE NOW. Can you NOT DRINK that ‘glass of wine’ for the next four or five nights and not ‘really need one’? THEN you aren’t an ‘alcoholic’ … but otherwise, you are.

The alcohol in wine helps thin the blood which in turn causes less stress on your cardio vascular system. Any type of alcohol will have this affect whether it be beer, whiskey, etc. Drinking too much alcohol can have negative affects on your body, so keep it moderate. The one advantage that darker red wines is that they have more antioxidants which are beneficial to your body as a whole.
